How I Work with People

I use gentle touch, movement, and verbal cues to communicate directly with your neuro-muscular nervous system.  This helps you let go of habitual ways of moving that no longer serve you.  You can then learn to move in ways that meet the needs of your life.

When I work with a person I first look to see if they have the ‘know-how’ to do what they wish to do.  I then look to see if they have the capacity to do it:  the fundamental movement patterns to support whatever it is they wish to do.  I then look to see if there are underlying patterns of movement and behavior that get in the way of them doing what they wish to do.

We then work together to release the underlying patterns that aren’t serving them, learn the fundamental patterns to support their movement, and gain the know-how to do what ever they wish to do.

I work with people in two ways:

Functional Integration® lessons are private and are tailored to each student's individual learning needs.  The lesson is performed with the student fully clothed, usually lying on a table or in sitting or standing positions.

Awareness Through Movement® lessons are usually done in groups.  Students are verbally guided through a sequence of movements, either lying on the floor, sitting on a chair, or standing.
